About

This practice has been running for approximately 17 years, and i have been working in Architecture for approximately 29 years. In that time, i can say i have created many, many different spaces, mostly around Sydney, of different scales, different building types, from Residential to Commercial. It has to be one of the most fulfilling, enjoyable occupations anyone could do.

Architect

While I am the key person in PWA's projects, the office collaborates with numerous consultants, who offer expertise in their field. We can co-ordinate small to medium sized projects with ease and enjoyment, from concept to construction. We maintain a core group of key people associated with the practice, and most projects involve a small team of experts.

Many of my recent projects have been in collaboration with my partner, well known Interior Designer, Cecilia Kugler, who herself has a busy practice. Between us, we have now successfully designed and documented some stunning projects.

We use Archicad to model everything in 3d, after the sketch stage, so the client is always able to view the project in 3d, an invaluable tool.

Builders

The Builder plays a key role in the process. A good Builder can transform a design into a well crafted building with skill, and good management. It is an extremely difficult process to build complicated buildings on little sites, with pressures coming at them from everywhere, and manage to keep subbies, Council, Client, Architect, Consultants, and suppliers, all happy, and end up with a very high quality result, on budget, on time. No easy task.

Add to this some variables, like the weather, the neighbours and the access, and it becomes clear what great managers these people have to be. A well organised, good quality builder, will save you a lot of time and money, regardless of initial price.

Consultants

Consultants are brought in, because they are experts in their field. A consultant gives expert advice on a certain aspect of the project, eg the Structural Engineer, who will design the structural elements of a project, will design to fit in with the Architectural scheme, add his elements to the design, and be a vital part of the design process, and the outcome. Other consultants frequently used are Interior Designers, Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyors, Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic Engineers, Heritage Experts, Town Planners, Project Managers, Model Makers, Professional Image Renderers.

They are all locally qualified, licenced, insured professionals. They are experts in their chosen field, and are always used where necessary.

Energy Efficiency

As an Architect, i am trained in the design of a form to suit not only the client, but the environment as well, this is what we do. We design a building, to suit the client, in their environment. Everthing is a one off, no matter how simple, or how complicated. Factors like orientation, building use, disabled access, solar access, privacy, external vegetation, ventilation, views, daylight, noise, height restrictions. The list goes on, but all these considerations come together to inform the design.

With an approach that takes advantage of the natural systems around us, you can see that by using nature to your advantage, the result can be a more naturally comfortable collection of spaces, which will also consume less energy, and cost less to run.
